Today we were at the Togo Primary School. They have a solid building, good looking grounds, and were recently given 17 computers for their library. Despite all of these advantages, they are without drinkable water. The water spigots that you see in the photos are delivering contaminated water that will sometimes make kids sick. We brought one filter for each classroom and taught the students and teachers how to assemble, use, and clean the filters. After we had each classroom set up, we hit the playground with all the kids. Make no mistake, the filters are important. Overwhelmingly so. But, these relationships are even more important. We are here as hands and feet, we are here to show these people that they are loved by people who will never meet them and may never see them. People who will never get to hear a "Thank you" from them or see the results of their efforts half a world away. We are a team of 29 and most of us needed to raise money to be here. Hopefully, most of you are reading these posts and get to see the results, because they are amazing. There was an epic soccer game as well as half a dozen other games that I don't know. We showed them games and they showed us some. Heads up 7 up was a class favorite. At the end of their recess they gathered together to sing us a song, thank us, scream like crazy people and cheer. Then the entire class lined up to thank the team individually. Like I said, the relationships are what is important.
Beautiful photos :)
